User Control Panel

Hi, I'm running into an issue with the user control panel. When members create main category, I then make there main category a subcategory of "member albums". The reason I do this is because if I don't, it makes my category tree menu grow out of control with users main categories. When I do add the user main category as a subcategory, users no longer have a main category.

any suggestions or a fix for this?
