Gallery setup for Group Users

Post by photoman »

I am building a Photographers website in Joomla 1.5 and need to incorporate a Gallery Component or Plug-in that will enable each member (currently 5) to Upload their photographs BUT ONLY into their particular Gallery. They would also need to be able to create their own categories and sub-categories.

I thought that Phoca Gallery would let me do this, but after spending hours on it using dummy data, cannot find the way to set it up. Can Jan or anyone else help me ~ or even point me to a tutorial or website that has a similar setup?

If this is not currently possible for technical reasons, is it possible (or even advisable) to install multiple copies of Phoca Gallery as standalone components and configure each to a particular members needs?

Hi,

documentation: how to let the user only upload to his own category: https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... ser-upload
They would also need to be able to create their own categories and sub-categories.
This is not possible by default. I've seen some hacks in the forum here, so that might help you... I can't guarantee though. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4236

Thanks for your prompt response Carolien.

The documentation page you referred to I had already studied and couldn't configure out for setting up the Gallery for the segregated multi-user use of 5 photographers.

It seems illogical that whilst there is this functionality built-in to the Joomla CMS with Content Article Manager, Phoca Gallery hasn't been written to take advantage of it. Multi-user use is the main reason for CMS programs.

The hacks link you also offered is not a route I would want to go down as I need a very stable website with photo gallery, and therefore I will only consider "proven" plugins or extensions that have been found to be compatible and are recommended by the Gallery Component developer, in this case Jan.

Would it be possible for Jan to provide the Forum Members with some feedback on this subject and also advise us if he will be working on rectifying these shortcomings in Phoca Gallery in the near future?

If Phoca Gallery can address these issues, it will clearly be the best Joomla Gallery Component currently available.

As far as I know you cannot create categories from frontend, and you cannot limit a user to create only articles in only one category (or section for that part)... If it's possible, please let me know, I could use that on a site of mine.
