Phoca Gallery Filters

Ok i'm new to Joomla and Phoca gallery. I'm creating a website with a gallery. The gallery is going to have over 1000 photos so I would like to have a filter system. The photos are from different years and cities, so I would like to have 2 drop down style filters and one standard textbox for searching keywords. I'm somewhat familiar with php so if I would need to create or modify a plugin that would be plausible. Any advice?

Hi, in Phoca Gallery, categories and pagination are used, so this should filter the images sufficiently

To do specific filtering form - with search and drop down, I unfortunately cannot give any clue advice, as I didn't do such customization yet, so I have no experiences with this
