b) you could resize the original files to the size of your large thumbnail...
maybe not the best solution but probaly the easiest, and it saves you some space...
(but you have to be sure that you don't want to resize (enlarge) the gallerypics later, because that wouldn't be possible without uploading new origninal pics)
