Thumbnail creation freeze

Joomla 3.3 test site with latest phocagallery 4.1.1 has been working OK but when I multi-added some images from a folder (with the category name then automatically named from the file folder name) the street scene page just shows'stop thumbnail creation' and hangs. I have reinstalled, deleting the thumbs folders and starting again but no luck. If I click 'disable thumbs creation' on the street scene page then I go back to images list and can see all 'imported' images but no thumbnails. Creation is turned off (red cross) at that point so I go to Options and turn it on then I end up with the street scene page again! Had a look through forum and turned of the JFile option but no change. It seemed to work OK for the first simple folder but failed on a folder with sub-folders. All original images are OK, its not failing on image corruption for example.
Love the component when it worked but this is a little for me now.
Using a number of phoca modules and plugins by the way... well done!

Update: reinstalled for the 6th time and changed ALL folders and files so they had no spaces (took hours) and made sure there was an image in every folder even though there shouldn't be, e.g. churches/priory and churches/All Saints where churches is an organisational folder and contains no images. Work OK now but gives a server error now and again whilst creating thumbnails. Don't know what the problem was so fingers crossed.

Change request please... can there be a button to turn thumbnail creation on where the red cross/green tick is please, or at least somewhere more accessible? If thumb generation fails (it seems prone to) and I have to turn thumb creation off, I then have to go to control panel... options... select yes for thumb creation... save and close. There could be quicker way.

Hi, added to feature request list.

Mostly if there are such problems, then just try to add the images per categories or per some small count of images to find what can be there problem.

Phoca Gallery does not create the thumbnails by itself, they are created by GD library and there can be a lot of problems so it is hard to somehow catch the errors, so this is why there are displayed errors.

Try to enable php error reporting which can output some information about errors which can be then easily solved - e.g. there can be permissions problems, time or memory issues, etc

Thanks Jan, I will do that if I get any more problems. I have identified issues with spaces in folder names although not file names, certain characters in a file name and the size settings for files. It runs OK now although I am not sure what was different from the first install but there are problems now and again.

Thanks again and this can now be closed. Great component although I am now struggling with the 'one image - showing in multiple albums' approach which I want to use a lot. I'll get there.
