I kind of figure out what is the problem and I got it worked! When we upload the pictures in Phoca gallery, it creates a directory called thumbs and resize all the big pictures and the smaller thumbnails. This is when the animation part is stripped off. When I go to Site--> Media Manager, I can see the animated gifs sitting there with their animation feature turned on. Whereas when I see the Thumbs folder, I see only the snapshot of the animations and its thumbnails. So, I went to the Phoca Gallery folder on my website through FTP and moved the animated gif into Thumbs folder and exactly renamed the file to correspond what was created by Phoca Gallery and it works like charm!
Phoca Gallery is truly amazing and thank you very much for making this wonderful tool!

Hello Jan!

I just installed the 2.7.1 Version of the gallery and must say: Good improvement! I was waiting a time for the Toolbarbutton: "New Thumbs" :D

I got the new version for a client/an artist and he has a gallery with animated gifs. 25 at the moment and there will come more!

This for I would be very happy, if you could solve this issue with the animated gifs!

I know, you say it´s not possible because GDLibrary won´t do this, but what would you think about this:

Implement a switch in the Edit-Picture-Form that says: Use Original Image: Yes/No!
I´ve seen this in other galleries, i think it was a wordpress gallery, it would solve this issue and almost turn into a new feature! 8)

Let me know, what you think!
Chris.

Hello Jan,

I also agree this is a very nice component. I am in the same boat as many in that i have many animated gif designs where its ok to make small and medium thumbs but it would be excellent if the large static thumb was not created and the original animation was left as it was.

The previous member solution was good thinking but i found that for it to work correctly i have to keep the original gif animated image in the folder where it was uploaded and then make a copy of that image and paste(replace) and rename it to the syntax of the large thumb.

The only issue is that if one has many images this doubling up could get huge. :o

I am still trying to work out swf images too, (im a flash banner designer) i can not seem to get them to show up using the swf object code there in the youtube memo box.

But without a doubt i am enjoying the testing and configuring of your component. Thank you! Richie

2 Richie:

Copying and renaming the image should always be done to keep the strukture. And the doubling could be handled with a "keep original images"-Option - should mean to delete the original uploaded image.

Could be a global option, for categories or items.

Yes this would be an excellent solution. But for now i have to move forward and just do something - so its copy and paste time for my animated designs. Its all good, either way, its a quick solution to get the animation to show for now.
Still need to figure out how to best show my swf designs using his component :|
