No images from front end upload

I am able to upload images from the front end but the thumbnail and the main image are blank. I have gone into the user upload folder and verified that the images and thumbs are there.
I also have tried to unpublish and delete from the front end. It verifies that they happen when I click on them but the thumbnail continues to show and nothing is deleted from the user folder.
I've followed the instructions on this page https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... ser-upload as well as I can so I'm not sure what to do next.

Exist they on the server?

I changed folder permission to 755. Now I can view thumbnail and photo.

I still don't have the ability to delete or unpublish a photo.

Then try to set up FTP or ask your webhosting provider for permissions or ownership of files and folders, see:
