Members and other categories

Post by Sjaak boer »

Hi,

This queston has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find an answer for it. If so, please refer me to the right topic.

I used Phocagallery for images in the articles on my website. It works fine and I'm happy with it.

Now I need to add the possibility for memebrs to upload their own images to show their work to other users.
I created a category 'Member images' and a menu item that directs to the member images category.
Next to that I set up Phocagallery to enable users to upload images. If users want to upload images they may create 2 extra subcategories. That's how I want it to work.
So if users upload their images the structure should looks somewhat like: Category 'member images'/subcategory 'user name'/ subsubcategory 'name by user'. Where I want users to only being able to manage their own images. I want visitors viewing these galleries only show the galleries that are created by other members.

I did a bit of testing and to me it seems that when users create upload their images they create Categories instead of subcategories to the 'category member images'. So everybody that follows the menulink to member images will not see the uploaded images by other members.
Next to that i do not need other people managing and viewing all the other images used on my websites in articles through the galleries.

I can't find the way to set it up as I want. Can somebody guide me in this.

TIA

Well I have been able to solve my problems by reorganising my categories. All the categories containing images on my website are now subcategories of the category 'website'. In the category listing I have set the category 'website' to 'hide'. And I have set subcategories to 'not show'.
As a result of this my members cannot see subcategories in the galleries; Am I right?
Therefore I have set the creation of subcategories for members to ' 0 '. Enabling them to create subcategories wasn't that important so this solutin is OK for me.

Having done that a new question comes up. Since my members can't create subcategories anymore; why do we still see a tab 'subcategories' in the user control panel? Am I doing something wrong? How can I remove/hide that tab?

TIA

Hi, there is no option to hide it. So this needs to be customized in the code :-(

Hi Jan,

Thank you for answering.
So now my members see the possibilty to create subcategories...but it doesn't work and no way I can hide things that don't work.
Not adding to professional looks of my website.
