Thumbnail Creation Error

Joomla 1.5.10 (bluehost.com)
Phoca 2.6.2
On my site I am unable to create thumbnails. When it goes to create thumbnails the browser just gives me a white screen with "stop thumbnail creation" in the upper right corner. When I de-bugged I got this error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 52428800 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home1/faithlif/public_html/faithbentonville/h/libraries/joomla/client/ftp.php on line 967

I tried adjusting my .htaccess, php.ini and joomla configuration settings with no luck.

The odd thing is that I have another joomla site on the same server where the thumbnail creation works!
Joomla 1.5.6 (bluehost.com)
Phoca 2.6.2

To make things simpler i just upgraded both sites to joomla 1.5.15. So now they're on the same server running the same versions of joomla and phoca. But one works and the other doesn't.

I've narrowed down the problem. It only fails to create thumbnails when the original image is larger than 3MB...
