Displaying categories

Post by krneki »

Hi,

I have some troubles with displaying categories and subcategories. I have 5 categories and 70 subcategories. At the moment, front page of image gallery (index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=categories) looks like this:

main category 1 >> subcategory 1
main category 1 >> subcategory 2
main category 1 >> subcategory 3
main category 2 >> subcategory 4
main category 2 >> subcategory 5
... and so on

Problem is that this is very badly arranged, especially if there are many categories/subcategories. My idea is to hide subcategories on front page of image gallery and to show only main categories. When user would click on one of the main categories, he would be redirected to it's subcategories.
Is it possible to realize this?

Hi,

in the parameters there is a setting under Categories View Settings (List of Categories) named Display Subcategories which should do the expected if set to No.

I have the same issue. I want only my main categories to show up on the first page and when you click that category, it brings you to the subcategory listings for that main category.

My problem comes from the fact that I don't have any pictures in the main categories. I find that when that category is empty, it doesn't show up on the front page. When I add a picture to it, it shows up. I don't want this. I want the main categories to just be a placeholder for the subcategories and not have any pictures of their own.

Is this possible to do?

This can also be changed within the parameters: in the Categories View Settings (List of Categories) section you have a setting named Display Empty Categories - if you set this one to Yes it does what you expect.
