I cannot get PhocaGallery to install, at all.
I have tried to install using the built in installer within Joomla as well as the FTP install method.
The first time, when installing using the Joomla installer I would essentially get a time out. I tried using both Chrome as well as FireFox without luck. So I tried using the FTP install method, but I was presented with an error:
Component Install: SQL error or missing or unreadable SQL file. DB function reports no errors
What are my options at this point? If any?
Failed Install

Re: Failed Install
I am attempting to troubleshoot some more but I'm just not getting anywhere unfortunately. I'm not even sure where to start looking from here. I'm hosted with PowWeb, so I went to their support forums and searched for Phoca since I know a number of users there use Joomla, but I didn't find anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My site is running on the following (from the built in Joomla site info):
PHP Built on: Linux cgi0802.int.bizland.net 2.6.32.2-nx #1 SMP Mon Jan 4 16:14:35 EST 2010 i686
Database Version: 5.0.83-log
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.2.2
Web Server: Apache
Web Server to PHP interface: cgi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.15 Stable [ Wojmamni Ama Mamni ] 05-November-2009 04:00 GMT
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.0 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/3.0.195.38 Safari/532.0

Re: Failed Install
I have had the same problem
First upload all the files via FTP in the right folders, and then install the phoca_ftp_installer from your installation manager.

Re: Failed Install -Same Problem!
I too am having same error message on FTP install [Component install: SQL error or missing or unreadable SQL file. DB reports on errors. Followed instructions for option 2 [to best of my ability ] on phoca installation problem solving document since on regular installation I got a blank white screen. I am running program as localhost on my Mac to learn programs and build our company site. I have successfully installed MAMP and Joomla! Instructions on problem solving doc is not clear on where to copy all files. I have the following folders on my computer: Applications/MAMP/htdocs/Joomla/all Joomla!program files and folders including 'language' and 'Administrator/language' folders
I copied required files into language and adminstrator/language as instructed. I then created three file folders with all required files first into my htdocs file folder: install result: error message; I then moved these three folders with all files to the MAMP folder: install result: same error message; I then moved these folders and files to the joomla file folder: install result: same error message.
My first question is can someone tell me which folder these three folders[with files] should be placed in? The problem solving document says files should be in same location as server. [this is not clear enough for a newbie like me].
I have searched forum and can only find one other post but no apparent solution to this problem. In an unrelated post, someone mentioned that they copied files in install.bak into folder install.sql because the folder was empty. Can someone walk me through where these two files are located and if this might be the cause of the problem here.
Thanks for any help.
PS Can anyone suggest a good first read for using all of these programs MAMP, PHP, MySQL, Apache, Joomla! and now Phoca Gallery for a complete Newbie to web site development? Any suggestions on where to start learning so I can better understand and use Joomla and Phoca programs?
Thanks again
Scott

Re: Failed Install
Hi, I don't have any experiences with MAMP, I am installting XAMPP on WinXP or Linux Suse and after installation everything is working (so in fact I have no idea there as I am not server expert)
Regarding the empty sql file. This is all right. The file should be empty as the sql queries are stored in php script. The install.bak file is there only for users who have problems with installing the component
The manual installation should be done by some experienced Joomla! (php, sql) user, so before it you need to know how Joomla! works, which folder structure it has, etc.

Re: Failed Install
Thanks for reply Jan. I do not know if the others writing in this topic also are running MAMP or if it is only me. I see from program requirements on Phoca home page that requirements for loading Phoca Gallery are:
* Joomla!1.5.10 (stable or any later version)
* PHP 4.4.1 (or any later version) with GD library (graphics library for thumbnails creation).
I am very new to both website design, joomla! and phoca so it is possible that I have overlooked something that would be obvious to other more seasoned web designers. Can you help me to understand where I would look to check and see if my joomla! and my PHP are correct versions? and also, how can I check to see if I have the required GD library installed as well? I am trying to check all possible avenues to solve this problem.
thanks again for your help

Re: Failed Install
Hi, check the info window in Phoca Gallery, and you can see which function are working on your server, which not.

Re: Failed Install
Thanks again Jan for your assistance. However, at this point, I have no choice but to forget about PHOCA GALLERY and look for other Joomla! galleries for my project. I have installed a few others without any problems and am moving on. I am disappointed not to be able to work with PHOCA GALLERY
