cannot access images department on the control panel

hi, I can use some help in regard to this issue I experience when trying to access PHOCA GALLERY administrative area " Images" on the back end. I cannot create or update photo galleries. When trying to access images, I get the error below. Some guidance would be greatly appreciated. What can be the cause of this? thanks in anticipation.

Hi, try to enabled debug mode in your joomla and try to see error log on your server to see what can be the problem on your administration site

thanks Jan, for your support. I realized what the problem was. There was a picture, 2 MB in file size, almost 3000 pixels width that was causing the problem. As soon as I try to publish this picture The Gallery system collapses.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening? I foresee people trying to upload big pictures, attempting to publish them. I have repeated the test with this specific picture and it would always put the Gallery down.
