category layout works but not category list

Hi:

I want to have a list of the categories appear on my page so I chose 'category list' from the menu type. I can get nothing to show up in the category list at all. However, when I change to category layout it will show the category that I choose in the drop down parameters. So I know that the thing is working, but I cannot figure out why the category list will not show. Since I have several categories this is the option that I need.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, check the parameters (if there is no hidden category, if there e.g. are displayed subcategories, etc.)
