JAK stopped working... Help?

Post by kenln »

I like your Phoca Gallery. I have had a bit of trouble but over all it is a very nice package.

My first problem the directory permissions. I ended up setting the me phoca image directories in media manager to 755 and that solved the problem but then.....

JAK stopped working. It was working great, fine, wonderful but now when you click on an image it display a webpage (replacing the parent) with the image. Just the image that's it.

No slide show.
Any idea why this would fail (quit working)???

I'd love to get it working again. I am using Shadow Box for now which is nice also.
Modul popup is nice also but it always starts the slide show at the begining of the image list rather than with the image I click on.

Any help fixing JAK would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Did I do the right thing changing the permissions? I looked it up in the forum and it seems to have been a problem with the last several releases and is still persistant.

Thank you again.

Hi, folders are set to 755 since 2.5.x

JAK - did you do some changes, e.g. installing extensions with some javascript library which can cause conflicts with JAK?

Did I do the right thing changing the permissions? I looked it up in the forum and it seems to have been a problem with the last several releases and is still persistant.
It is not problem of Phoca Gallery but of wrong settings on servers. Some servers works only with 777 permissions which is very dangerous. Since 2.5.x in Phoca Gallery the permissions were set to 755 which is more secure but of course, if permissions and ownership is not correctly set on server, then it can be a problem.

Files and Folders in Phoca Gallery are created by Joomla! standard methods - JFile and JFolder and these methods work with FTP or web settings. If you will enable FTP layer in your site and your files and folders have ftp ownership, then there is no problem with creating files and folders. If you don't use FTP layer, JFile and JFolder methods will not use them. In parameters of Phoca Gallery you can set if thumbnails will be created with help of php functions - no JFile method or with JFile method. So it means, it depends on server settings. You need to know them, if you know them, then you can set how files and folders will be written.

Using 755 is more secure than 777 and is default in Phoca Gallery.

The permissions are set to 755.

Is there a way that the permissions caused or is causing JAK to stop working?

Is anyone else having a problem similar to mine with JAK?

Hi,

Right now I have Phoca Gallery and Guest Book, Easy Book (I need to drop one) and JoomlaPack. That's it.

The only thing I did was install a new version of Phoca Gallery and install Phoca Guest Book. That wouldn't give me any problems would it?

I know this is a bother but JAK is cool. The more I find out how to use Phoca Gallery the more I like it (and its features).

I appreciate any help you can give me.

The site goes live after next, but now I think I am loosing it.

I have been using Shadow Box, so just for the fun I set it back to JAK and guess what.

It's working again??????

Seriously I don't know what, if anything I did. But I'm keeping my hands off. I like JAK so if it works then cool.

P.S. At the same time Phoca Guest book stopped emailing when a new post was made?

I know this sounds wierd but their any possible connection???

I can set you up as a registered user if you need/want to see the sight.

Thank you for your help,
