I saw a few other threads with this but maybe providing some more info will help solve it.
I was Using Phoca Gallery just a week ago. hadn't used it in a week and now when i try to upload photos in the backend it gives me an error of "Image is not valid" the images i am uploading are 2.3MB .jpg files. i have plenty of space on the server and i have set the max size in Phoca to 6mb. the server that this is on is a local xampp server that i am in charge of. Pretty sure i didnt change anything between a week ago and now but something must be different. I have tried the java uploader and the standard (both with same results) I have chmoded the joomla/images/phocagallery file to 777 as well as the index.html file that is contained in that file. I also chowned them after the chmod didnt work as they were not originaly owned by any user. not sure if this is the folder that would need to have the correct permission of if it would be another, or if it is just a completely different problem. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled phoca gallery, deleting all phoca related files in joomla/images/
thanks for this component and any help you can provide

Re: Not a valid image error
well i just figured it out. I coppied an image into a folder in joomla/image/phocagallery/ i then went to multiple add on the backend. checked it and selected the category and hit save. I got a list of errors from joomla/administrator/components/com_phocagallery/helpers/phocagallerery.php. I chmoded the joomla/administrator/components/com_phocagallery directory to 777 and it all works wonderfully again. no idea what changed but it works now. hope this can help others. and again thanks for this component!

Re: Not a valid image error
ok nevermind that only fixed the one option of adding images. i can manualy copy the files in and then add them to the cattegory, but the standard upload and java upload both still give me the "not a valid image" error. I have now chmoddd all files and folders to 777 in the com_phocagallery directory and image/phocagallery directory. i guess i am still looking for some help
