Pagination & Category vs Categories Confusion

This is one of the best Joomla component. However I have a few questions.
I am building a celebrity gallery and the category are Hollywood, bollywood, asian, Japanese; korean; latina, etc.

Then within these category, individual names, for eg.

hollywood>>angelina Jolie, Hollywood>> Brad pitt

Japanese>>Asuka
japanese>> Miyoko etc


This way I have more than 12 category and 700 sub category.

So When someone clicks the Hollywood category, with more than 100 categories, how can I just show 20 thumbnails with pagination? Is this possible? I know this is possible with the categories view...

Pagination in categories view (category list) isn't possible. I think it's not possible either when you show the subcategories as a category list.

You can have pagination when you set the subcategories as category view (so the same view as the thumbnails are).

I really want to use Phoca Gallery because I am really appreciate it. However, can Phoca Handle 70,000 images? and more then 700 categories? Maybe this is not yet meant for a full-fledged gallery like gallery2 or zenphoto. What do you recommend please. I use only joomla and both gallery2 and zenphoto are not meant for Joomla..

Hi, some users have had problems with 800 categories, but then we have optimized the script for loading categories and they have no problems anymore...

But the question of amout of images and amount of categories should be set for server's performance too.

There is used pagination, so items are loaded per pages (e.g. per 20 images), the same with categories. I cannot tell you if this system will work with 70.000 images on your server because I didn't test it so really no idea

Hello Jan, Thanks for the reply and a good morning here from japan. Like I said you have made a great extension and one of the most popular one in Joomla. But again, I want to know is, I have more than 100 categories in the japanese category. So in the tree menu, when some one clicks japanese, is it possible to show it in pagination? If there is a hack or a way, I would be very grateful.

Hi, there is no such option, as the tree menu is created by javascript, I have no idea how to set the pagination there
