Hiya folks,
does anyone have experience with upgrading from Phoca cart 4 and Joomla 5.4 to Phoca cart 5 and Joomla 6.1?
Is the upgrade straightforward, or are there any manual steps which needs to be done beforehand?
Is it simple to upgrade from PCart 4/J5.4 to Pcart 5.1/J6.1

Hi,
I would test these updates locally, for example using Laragon, or better yet in a subdomain of the site, so that you have the same environment (PHP, etc.) as on the original site. However, there shouldn't be any major issues.
Kind regards,
Benno

Hi Benno,
thank you kindly for your reply. You discovered Laragon to me, was using xampp for years, nice
What bothers me is, in my Joomla 5.4.5 it doesnt show any option to upgrade to J6, like it doesnt exist, so i am not sure if something might be out of order, any thought about that?

Also, should first install pkg_phocacart_modules_v5.1.1.zip over my existing phocacart 4.0.10 ?

Hi,

Laragon: Yes, I used XAMPP for years too, but it was very unstable for me. That’s why I eventually switched to Laragon, and I’m very happy with it.
Kind regards,
Benno
This usually happens when the wrong update channel is selected. If you want to upgrade to the next major release, you must select the “Joomla Next” update channel. However, be sure to switch back to the default setting after the upgrade; otherwise, the next update won't be offered until Joomla 7.0.0 is released:What bothers me is, in my Joomla 5.4.5 it doesnt show any option to upgrade to J6, like it doesnt exist, so i am not sure if something might be out of order, any thought about that?

Yes, I would first update all extensions to version 5 and then perform the upgrade to Joomla 5.Also, should first install pkg_phocacart_modules_v5.1.1.zip over my existing phocacart 4.0.10 ?

Hi,
Here's how to update from Joomla 5 to Joomla 6:
https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_5.4.x_to ... ep_by_Step
Note, among other things, this pink warning:
To upgrade from Joomla 5.4.x to 6.x, the Backward Compatibility Plugin for Joomla 5 MUST be DISABLED.
Then there's the section: Pre-update check for Joomla 6 -> Manage Extensions
Check if all extensions are compatible with Joomla 6.
This is where third-party extensions for Joomla 6 compatibility come in.
Once the above is done, proceed to step 10.
The screenshot shows Update Channel > Joomla Next, etc.
Also, note step 12: (Pre-Update Check) and then further informations ........
I had already prepared my answer above before Benno's post.
Kind regards,
Christine
