Different pagination for categories

Does anyone know of a way to set a different pagination level for categories to that of images. For example I would like to have 20 categories per page but would like to display all images in a categories. I know this isn't a standard features but if anyone know of a code change I can use to make this work it would be greatly appreciated.

In fact I've noticed that there is no pagination for categories, it only works on the images.
