How To Break Down Categories To 3 or 4 Levels?

Post by rdavis »

Hello,

Can anyone please help me break down the categories. Below is what I am desiring:

When users click on my picture gallery link, I want them to see the two main categories: Retaining Walls and Fencing. Then if they click on Retaining Walls, they would have 5 or 6 jobs to choose from with the images for that gallery inside that job icon. Same setup for Fencing.

Currently, when I click on my picture gallery link it goes to a page that has all the categories and it is not broken down far enough.

Example: Here is what it looks like when I click on my main picture gallery link:
Retaining Walls >> OGandE
Fencing >> Sub Station

What I want is like this:
Main link:
Retaining Walls
Fencing

After clicking one one of the above:
Retaining Walls >> Commercial Jobs
Retaining Walls >> Residential Jobs

After clicking one one of the above:
Retaining Walls >> Commercial Jobs >> [Job Name Here]

After click on the above:
Images that are in this gallery would be shown.

How do I break it down like this??? Any help is greatly appreciated!

That means what? As far as I understand you, the gallery shows the two base-categories and the your sub-categories a.s.o.!? This is what it should do. When definig the phaca categories, you may define a "leading cat." So you're able to define the structure you described.

Do you have a link where we could see what you mean?

Thanks for the replies. I do not have the site up, just a testing server so I dont have a link to share. How do you specify a leading category?

I have it set up so the two main categories are not partents to anything else, is that what you mean?

Hi,

I suppose you have subcategories and parent categories.

You need to create a menu link of the type 'phoca gallery category list layout'. In the component - parameters on the right, you need to set display subcategories' to no and 'display empty categories' to yes.

If you have Phoca Gallery 2.2.1 beta, you could try to play with the 'display subcategories as categories view' settings (I haven't tested them myself, but that's on my wishlist for this weekend). Otherwise the subcategories are displayed as medium thumbnails.

Regards, Carolien
