Empty category not displaying images in mosaic effect

Hi,
I have an unusual problem which I can't seem to find an answer to in the forum; hopefully, I haven't missed anything in the forum. I use categories and subcategories for my albums. For example: Islands (main--no picts), island 1(sub), island 2(sub), island 3(sub). In Mosaic effects under Categories View >> Categories View Settings I've enabled Mosaic Effect, disabled Displaying Style under Categories View >> Categories View Settings >> Categories View - Legacy Settings and under Thumbnails >> Thumbnail Generation Settings I've enabled Additional Thumbnails >> Medium and small thumbnails and recreated all the thumbnails from scratch. I've disabled Display Avatar as Category Image under Category View >> Categories View Settings.

I get nice pictures for categories that have picts but nothing for empty categories that hold sub categories. When I disable Mosaic Effect under Categories View >> Categories View Settings voila. No problem. I get images from the sub categories.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running 4.3.1 and 3.6.2 Joomla.

Hi, yes, if you run mosaic effect, there is no option to display mosaic for empty categories. For displaying mosaic effect, all categories should have images (and of course more than 5 if possible)

I got that impression after testing it. That's OK because it still looks great. Good job, I really like the new look!

Well, I just discovered something very interesting. If you go into Categories View >> Categories View Settings >> Categories Image order and use anything other than Special, you won't have folder icons if they're empty categories acting as placeholders--you still need to turn off Mosaic Effect, though. I had Special and once I changed it, voila, it started picking up pictures from the subcategories regardless of their depth. The rest of the album has Masonry Effect and it looks great.

Ok (special ordering is specific ordering which saves database queries - images are ordered the same way like categories and no specific queries are built)
