try to enable php reporting on, maybe you get some error message, and maybe some php error can be solved, otherwise I don't know any other installation method in joomla!
- installing with ZIP file (common)
- installing from web
- installing from directory (you will copy the files via ftp into the server directory and will install it from this directory - see joomla.org for some information)
