really slow performance

Post by breinicke »

I've installed Phoca onto my website, and I absolutely love the features! But I have to say, it is so incredibly slow that i"m not sure I can use it. The preformance issue comes when you click on an image and it pops up. The load time for the pop up is greulingly slow. Is a 600px image way too big? We were wanting to give people quality enough images to make a reasonable 4x5 print.
Go to my webpage, and let me know... is this normal? I've searched the forums for "slow" and I can't imagine I'm the first person to mention this if it is normal.

Hi,

I see what you mean. It could be that your server is quite slow, I mean, loading the home page took a while too. Have you tried the modal popup box or the standard popup window? I'm not sure, but it might be faster.

Images of 600px is normal, it's certainly not large.

Good luck

Carolien

My hosting is through GoDaddy which while it may not be the absolutely most blazingly fast hosting provider on the planet, I have no problem with the flash videos and mp3s that I stream from there, nor do I have any performance issues with the photos at our main website.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to up the performance?

what about GD library? did you tested it? ... Thumbnails are created by GD library which is a part of php server settings and it depends on this GD library and PHP memory on the server :( :( ... flash videos and mp3 don't need any resizing which is very exacting on GD and PHP memory...

:(
