size of thumbnails - just a question of understanding

I uploaded in the phoca-folder some pictures with the size of 2400 x 1350 px. The thumbnails are defined as follows:
small:240 x 135
large: 768 x 432
medium: 144: x 81


1) where are the thumbnails stored?
2.) are the original pictures been changed?

I created a folder-structue and linked the structure to categories in phoca. If I copy via ftp new pictures to the folder, do I see them in the category or if I delete them with ftp are they really invisible?

Is the procedure correct to upload files via ftp to the folder phoca and then add them to categories or do I have to use the add ore multiple add button within image in Phoca?

Hi,

1) thumbnails are stored in thumbs folder which is a subfolder of the folder where the original images are stored
2) original images are never changed, as they can be used e.g. for other components, articles, etc. so Phoca Gallery does not change any original image.

If you delete original images, then Phoca Gallery will work, but some functions and features will be limited (e.g. download - of course if there are no original images, they cannot be downloaded, info about size, and you cannot newly recreate the thumbnails when there are no original images more)

The easiest and fastest method is to do the structure on your PC and then upload it per FTP, Phoca Gallery then will create from folders categories, from subfolders subcategories and thumbnails will be created from included images (when multiple add will be used)

Thank you for the answer, just another question

if I have a structure of folders and files uploaded via FTP.

Some month later, I override these structure/ files. This means, the structure will be the same, the filenames are the same, but the files itself are changed.
Will phona show now the new pictures?

Hi, then you need to recreate the thumbnails. In image list, you can see the button to recreate thumbnails.
