I got an e-mail from server administrator:
Onyour hosting is one or more directories that have too many files.
Directory: ./www/images/phocagallery/fotogalerie/thumbs
File Number: 13059
We ask you to check the situation and find a solution. It's not directly contrary to our rules, but from a programming point of view, it is inappropriate solution that could eventually lead to a deterioration in the quality of your web hosting and its slowdown.
Please, how to solve it?

Re: Big amount of files
Willkommen Cudla,
http://www.reisefotografien.eu/phoca-be ... inzufuegen

Re: Big amount of files
HI,
Benno

Re: Big amount of files
Hi Cudla,
oh
sorry about the german - it's like fotky or so
Thank you for your link - we will have a look ....
kind regards, Christine
-------------
Edit now: I would say, that the fotka galerie (separeted folders) is well-structured & the images are not too large. It seems to be a generell space problem with your hosting? Of course, you have many fotky.

Re: Big amount of files
Hi, only to extend the Christine's answer.
Phoca Gallery uses thumbnails - each image has three thumbnails (small, large and medium) as default - for some specific cases (masonry, etc.) you can extend the count of thumbnails - so each image will have more thumbnails.
The reason of using thumbnails is saving time, memory and bandwidth of server. For example, if e.g. 50 users visit your page at the same time:
1) you can display for them original images - e.g. 2MB of jpg or only large thumbnail e.g. 400KB - this is why thumbnails are important
2) you can create the thumbnails dynamically for each users but then if your server will make e.g. 50 thumbnails at one, it will stop working - so this is why the thumbnails are created at the beginning and then not more.
So having more thumbnails is good for server - to save memory, time, bandwidth, etc. but of course it is good to store the images to different folders (different categories).
13059 files in one folder means, you have cca 13059/4 (one original, three thumbnails) 3264 images there. I think you need to check if, if this is really true or if there are some obsolete files, etc.
