upgrade from joomla 1.5 to 3.4?

Hi, I have some joomla 1.5 sites to upgrade to 3.4. Unfortunately they use phoca gallery. Why unfortunately? Because it seems not to work to migrate those old galleries to the new versions and I did not find any proper documentation for that task yet. Anybody here that can help?

Old Site:
Joomla 1.5.26
Phoca Gallery 2.8.1

New Site:
Joomla 3.4.0
Phoca Gallery 4.1.2

What I did:
I moved the folder images/phocagallery with all its images from the old instance to the new one and migrated also all datafields jos_phocagallery_* from the old to the new database. After that I installed Phoca Gallery 4.1.2 unto the new Joomla instance. But neither images nor categories are there. Migration seemed not to work this way and I found no sufficient documentation for that task yet. Furthermore I experience a lot of errors on new instance when browsing through phoca gallery backend panel...

Is there a smart an working way to migrate/upgrade phoca gallery from joomla 1.5.26/phoca gallery 2.8.1 to joomla 3.4.0/phoca gallery 4.1.2?
