How to use tags and categories efficiently

Post by olaeblue »

I have images which are from our club journals, meet reports etc and feature images of people, mountains, caves, climbing etc.

I want to have a structure by which you could view all journals or specific meet reports, but also all images featuring people or mountains. i.e. be able to have multiple categories and tags on individual images.

I have set up a category structure by image source.
- Journal
- Meets
-- Meet A
-- Meet B
-- Meet C
-- etc

And have then tagged images with tags like
- People
- Mountains
- Caves
- etc

But I can't find a way to display all images (from the journal and meets categories) that are tagged 'People' even if I create a category (without a folder) called people and link the tag to that category.

Clearly I don't want to upload multiple copies of the same image and put them in every category.

How can I do this?

I am using Joomla 3.3.6 & PhocaGallery 4.1.2

Thanks

Hi, see:
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... d-glossary
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... -menu-link

You can set menu link to all categories or to only one selected category (Categories View vs. Category View)

I don't think that this quite answers the question. This might be done better using tags. There should be a way to aggregate photos using multiple tags. Right now, tags in phoca don't do a lot.

Hi, yes, for now the tags are displayed by the pictures, and I am planning to add them to search view - search by tags.

Dear All,
is possibile to choose correct sequence for tags to show on photos?

For example, I have created following tags:

pen, house, car, bus.

When I add many tags on photos, phoca shows tags with strange order.
Is possibile to decided which is correct order of these tags? (ex. bus, house, pen)

On backend I can add tags ordered by choose but on frontend the system shows TAGS with different sequence.

Thanks

Hi, there is no ordering for tags set specially, so you can change it here:

administrator\components\com_phocagallery\libraries\phocagallery\tag\tag.php

see displayTags.

Hi,
I would like to display an image related with an article by a tag, which also links to the Phoca gallery folder with related pictures (each image has a tag defined)

It will help when I have a list of related articles module displayed, to show also an image with this tag, linking to the gallery.
This will make the gallery easily accessible .... but I can't find a way to do this.
Any suggestion?

Hi, I think, this you need to customize directly in article part, or you should create specific content plugin for this, which will run in article, but for now no experiences with such feature, so cannot give any clue advice :-(
