I'm trying to get 2.7.2 working but I can't after lots of trying!

I've set the Error Reporting in Global Configuration to Maximum
I've also set php5.ini to:
error_reporting = E_ALL
display_errors = On

And yet when I create a 'Phoca Gallery Category List Layout' menu link to my phoca gallery installation all I get is a blank page, no errors, no gallery.

As well as being the case with my template, this also happens with JA_Purity template.

I did have 2.6.x installed and this is an upgrade and although I had clicked the big UPGRADE button, after the upgrade I just saw a blank white page where the gallery categories should appear.

I had published and authorised the category and image. The image had the correct thumbnail in the backend. However when looking at the source code of the page there doesn't seem to be any code from Phoca Gallery, none at all.

Can anyone help me get this working? I've been trying all day, but no success. I really don't want to do a complete new joomla install.

By the way I then tried to do a clean install of Phoca Gallery by uninstalling Phoca, but when I install 2.7.2 (clicking install button and not upgrade) I still get the same problem - blank page no photos or categories....or anything!

I have now reinstalled 2.6.2 and it works. But obviously I would like to go back to 2.7.2

Can anyone give me some advice on how I can troubleshoot this considering what I said about no errors in my original post?
