First time I ahve an issue with Phoc - image download broken

I love phoca and I have been using it for some time now as my default gallery.

I just installed it on a test site and I have been having 2 distinct issues with it:

1) Thumbnails are not being created. I read up about it and I am set just fine. I have FTP on, permissions are correct, yet teh thumbnail creation is set to no all the time (even if it stays set to yes for a session, but then no more) and I am unable to create thumbnails.
Thankfully, I use VSO image resizer and Opus9 (with built in FTP) so making thumbnails, renaming them and uploading them is very fast and easy so I am able to work. But it's be nicer if it did it automatically.

2) MORE IMPORTANT - This one is driving me nuts. In the category view when I click on "Download image" instead of a dialog box I get a browser page full of binary (At least I think that's what it is).
I searched both this forum and Google but on that one I found no leads.

I am really baffled with this one. I looked at the code and the settings, but I can't find anything out of place. Also I don;t see why there would be a choice to download the binary :)

Can anyone help to see if I have set something wrong or if there is a bug?

Just for added clarity this is what happens:

1) In the category view page I click on the "Download" link
2) Immediately I get a page looking like this:

Code: Select all

ÿØÿàJFIFddÿÛC ÿÛC ÿÀà€"ÿÄ ÿÄµ}!1AQa"q2‘¡#B±ÁRÑð$3br‚ %&'()*456789:CDEFGHIJSTUVWXYZcdefghijstuvwxyzƒ„…†‡ˆ‰Š’“”•–—˜™š¢
The link looks like this:

Code: Select all

index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=detail&catid=3:goodyear-photos&id=44:iraqsoldierswithpopcorn-&tmpl=component&phocadownload=2&Itemid=0
Thank you so much for your help.

My bad! But I have an idea to run by the developers.

Never mind. I just realized I did not install the download plugin. I usually install them all at one but this time I must have been interrupted and by the time I got back to it I had forgotten.

I did have an idea I wanted to run by the developers:

There are many Joomla providers that require quite a bit of navigating around to find and download all the different plugins, modules, themes, etc. that are necessary to install a given component.

I think it's very nice that Phoca is free and I make a point to have everyone one of my clients donate what tehy can afford (and sometimes what they can't). But there is a service that I would pay for that I don't think would be too hard to implement.
This could be an either , or - or both type of deal but here is the idea:

How about selling access to a version that would allow us to install every plugin and module along with the component all in one shot? I would certainly pay a reasonable amount for that. (And it would be nice if no "unistall" was necessary to upgrade, as many extensions are allowing these days)

If that's too hard, a nice alternative would be to have access to a page where all the links were bullet listed so that to install one could either just download them all with a download manager, or, what I usually do when that's an option) R-clcik on the download file and thenm paste it directly in the install field in Joomla.,

It's fast, works well and it's easy. Did I mention I would pay?
One could be presented with a licensing agreement right before getting to that page.

What do you think? Is it feasible? I think it would make you guys a bit more money and would be a really nice service.

Take care

Nope, download still doesn't work

Sure thing. I was in a hurry when I posted this thread (as you can tell by my spelling in the title) and I forgot to add the link.

The gallery is here:
http://www.supportourtroops.org/index.p ... egory&id=1

and it still shows the binary for the image rather than a download. I am using FF 3.6 on Win 7

Thanks.

Hi, seems like the URL is Ok, the image maybe should be Ok too but the strings are utf-8 encoded, so it cannot be displayed as image (if you save the string in editor). No idea there  Try to check some server settings (but really no idea, didn't see such problem yet :-( )
