problems with categories AND category view

Hi,

I'm trying to get my gallery up and running, but coming across a number of issues. Here are two:

1) I just added a "category list" menu item. When I click on it in the front end, I get a page properly built, but instead of a gallery I get a message "Category is not published" in Chrome (no message in IE8, just "Gallery" and "Powered by Phoca Gallery"). When I check in my Categories Manager, the one category and two subcategories all have a green checkmark in the "Published" column. What's up?

2) I created another menu item to link to a "category" and directed it to my category. I get error messages in both Chrome (The website has a redirect loop and has created too many redirects) and IE8 (500 internal server error and 404 Not Found error).

What am I doing wrong? Are there setting somewhere I should change?

Re: the first issue

If it's any clue, I also don't have any categories listed in the parameters under "hide categories." So somewhere there's a miscommunication between the categories manager, telling me that my categories are published, and the global parameter, which doesn't recognize any categories existing...

Any ideas>

Hi, check if your Joomla! installation is correctly installed, check if the Phoca Gallery is correctly installed and includes all tables in database, see:

Hi Jan,

I had both issues initially, and fixed them both according to those instructions, and found in another thread about checking for and adding 'metaname' and 'metadesc'. This issue has occurred since then.

I just installed the tree module to see if that would work and maybe give me a hint about problems viewing the categories. It works: it shows the module with tree structure, and shows the categories listing in the main content area *if* I set I set it to show unaccessible categories. So I checked my categories and they all have access set to "Public", so I don't understand why they should be "unaccessible"...

And maybe a related question - One of my 2 categories has no photos itself; all of the photos there are in subcategories. That category doesn't appear on the categories listing--no photo, no name, nothing...?

Hi, the categories are displayed by tree, so there should not be problem with empty categories, which have subcategories with images :-(

Hi Jan,

No worries. After mining the forum long enough and spending time switching a bunch of parameters back and forth, I have discovered the changes I needed to make in order to make everything visible.

Next step, customizing...

Thanks for your help.
