Advice - moving large gallery to Picasa

First of all I want to thank Jan for all the hard work he has done on Phoca Gallery. It is a great tool.

I have a huge gallery (~20,000 images/thumbnails + 500 categories). Phoca handles this just fine. But I am now consuming about 50% of the my disk allocation in jpgs. I would like to move to Picasa (cheap disk space from my POV). Phoca provides the interface - year.

The questions are:
  • Has anyone moved an existing Phoca gallery to Picasa?
  • Any gotcha's I should consider
My plan is to copy my existing directory structure, delete the thumbnail directories, load the entire structure into the Picasa Windows tool, and finally upload onto the web. From there I expect to have to make manual (maybe I can figure out a way to automate this) changes to each category so that it points to the correct Picasa Album.

Any thoughts on this approach?

Hi, I am using Picasa on my PC. There I am sorting the images to albums. Then I am uploading them to web (Picasa web) and in Phoca Gallery I only load the information for the category.

I see no problem there. You can set albums there and in Phoca Gallery categories, you can make the categories in Phoca Gallery as you want (they can have other tree level as albums on Picasa - there is no connection to tree).
