What's the best way to organise categories

Hi all,
I'm 5 days into using Joomla to replace my 10yr old site, and so far all is well!
One of the first things I wanted to get going was an image gallery, and Phoca looked great. It's all working, and I've been playing around with the millions of config settings.
Jan - it's an awesome bit of software.

I've got one question...

I read in the manual that the recommendation is to organise category folders on the server in a hierarchy: ie
images/phocagallery/holidays/holiday_1

Is there a technical/practical reason for that, or is it just to make navigation easier? Any limit to the depth of folders? ie
images/phocagallery/holidays/2009/hot_holidays/holiday_1

Finally, what is the easiest/quickest way to import the 2000 or so images I already have in 50 folders on my server. Do I have to add each category 1 by 1 then import the images (which is what I've done so far)?

Many thanks in advance.
Dave.

Hi dave, the quickest way to add your existing images is to upload the entire folder structure to the server via ftp. the go to multiple add and continue as described here: https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... categories. Phoca gallery automatically creates subcategories from your folders (album names will be the names of the folders).

To organize images into folders has to do with server performance - i think ;)

Thanks Reko. I hadn't found that bit of the documentation, so thanks. I'd been looking at the docs relating to categories, not images ;-)
Do you know if it will add categories regardless of how many levels there are in the folder structure? I wouldn't want to keep the folder names as Category names, but I guess it's easier to change those afterwards than create them all manually from scratch.
Thanks,
D.

I'm not aware of any restrictions regarding depth of folders.
