How do I update from PG 2.2.4 to 2.5.8?

I tried to update Phoca Gallery 2.2.4 to 2.5.8. After this, all the images dissapeared.
Obviously, I did something wrong. But I can't find any information, that explains how to update Phoca Gallery.
I followed this guide, when copying the files. I did nothing to the database, because I assumed
that there where no changes there, since there is no documentation mention it.
Perhaps someone can help me out here?
