I’m part of a group of hobby photographers that is affiliated to a nature organization. We are allowed to use their meeting rooms and receive support at exhibitions, in exchange we make (a part of) our photos available so that the nature organization can use these for PR purposes. Total number of photos is now around 350, but is growing. I expect to end up with between 500 and 750 photos.
We have now categorized it on a Google Drive. Photos in folders, in the name the initials of the photographer, intention is that we also mention the location of the photo (name nature area for example) in the end. See below. This is a Google Drive screenshot in Dutch, mentioning the Shared space on Google Drive and the breadcrumbs to the files:
In itself this works fine, but there are some limitations. We are now very dependent on the naming of the file, but (above all) we now only have one format, while for different purposes different resolutions are more practical (large for expo, middle for print, small for web).
It would be nice if the user could choose a resolution that he has in mind for the purpose – for example on websites where you can download wallpapers. See example below:

I am making an inventory of whether there are alternatives to Google Drive that can ultimately be more practical. Phoca Gallery has a good reputation and the stock-demo with SimpleCaddy integration looks pretty much like what I'm looking for.
However, the checkout-process is not desireable as we want to provide registered users with these files for free. So it is more like a wallpaper-site at which you can select different resolutions before downloading.
Another thing is searching within the gallery on tags (author name, or tags derived from the filename, tags from exif/iptc. Can't find it in the demo/documentation...
Is there a way to accoumplish this with Phoca gallery?
