The documentation has:
Slideshow Random (Yes | No) Enables or disables random ordering of slideshow images
Random Slideshow (On Demand | Allways | Peek | None) Enables or disables random ordering of slideshow images

Why two slide show parameters? What's the difference between them? How and when should I use the first, second, or both?

Hi, one is set by Phoca Gallery - to select the images which will be included in the slideshow, second is set directly by the javascript slideshow - it is different method of displaying the images in the slideshow.
