Subcategories

Can someone please let me know if it's possible to make categories and subcategories. I really tried and also looked all over the web to find out how.
I need to be able to make a folder with is the main category, and when clicking that, have several subcategories.
Also if it's possible to have the main and sub folders as a image instead of a folder.
I have a website with restaurants listed. And I want every restaurant to have their own folder, and inside every folder, sub folders for different event.
So say user clicks on "mcdonalds". Fr.o.m. Their they should be able to choose maybe 5 different other folder "Friday", "halloween" etc or whtever the different folders are named. And when clicking the sub folder they should see all the images of that folder.
Is this even possible or so I have to find another extension for this purpose?
