tooltip (or alternative) for the gallery thumbnail

I have set the gallery thumbnail to be the first photo in the gallery. However, I'd also like to have a tooltip (or something like a tooltip) pop up here when the mouse cursor is over that gallery thumbnail - something which explains the gallery a little. Is that possible?
