I am somewhat new to Joomla but have now completed two Joomla sites. I want to add a Phoca Gallery to a site I am now developing. I have downloaded and installed "com_phocagallery_v2.2.4.zip" and "com_phocagallery_v2.2.4.zip" so far. I cannot figure out how to implement these into my site, nor am I clear about the numerous plugins and modules that are listed on your site, what they do, and which ones I need to load to set up my gallery. Sorry, but the documentation does not tell me clearly what these module do and how they fit together with the other parts of the Phoca system.

Here is what I want to have on my site:

- a gallery of thumbnails that points to larger images, and the ability to do a slide show
- important! the ability to have a registered user upload images and "manage" the gallery via user login
- understand how to point to the gallery index with an item in my menu (have tried all 3 items in the Phoca "new menu" list and none brought up the gallery)

Any additional features are just extra good stuff, but what I really need are just these basic things above.

Can someone reading this give me this information: a) what modules, components, or plugins do I need to load and install to provide the basic photo gallery I describe above for my site? And, what menu item do I use to point to the gallery (I assume the menu item will point to an index of image categories???) to set up the site menu to point to the gallery?

for the 3 requirements you mentioned, you only need to install the component ("com_phocagallery..."), nothing else.

at this stage it's not possible for the users to manage their albums (= categories) in front-end. they can upload pictures to the categories you give them access to, but they can only create one category in front-end.

for the menu: basically there are 2 menu-items possible: categories-link (link to a page that displays all of your categories) and category-link (links to a page that displays thumbnails of one category or subcategory).
