Organizing and displaying gallerys

Hi,
I'm extremely new to the Phoca Gallery as I've just installed it and I'm trying to learn the system to see if it will meet my needs. So far I'm impressed. (me looks to the donate button) However, before I claim victory in my gallery setup I need to know if I can make some of these changes. I've searched the forums and read the documentation but I'm someone confused. Here's what I'd like...
I have a Gallery's button/link. When the user clicks that, my joomla article loads. Within that article I would like to show the different categories. I have 2 main categories, and 1 subcategory that belongs in only 1 of the main catorgies. So, it would be something like:
- Tournaments
---> Spring 2009
---> Spring 2008
- Facilty
Tournaments and facility is my main categories. When the user clicks the Tournaments main category it would display the subcatorgies.
There are no images for the main category, except maybe a thumbnail image for the initial link. How do I hide that image so that when the user clicks on tournaments, only the subcategories appear?
Secondly, is there a way to show only the category image and not have all the individuals in that gallery appear in the article page also? I just want the user to see only the gallery categories for them to click on and not have the individual images shown in the article page as well.
