How do I choose image for thumbnail categories?

Is it possible to point to an image in category that would always be used for that category thumbnail?
I can not currently define the image to introduce category. Any hints?
I thought it was Ordering - dependent (i.e item #1 in the order was always used as the category thumbnail ).
But when I changed order in Images list of the category - the order inside the category changed, but
this did not influence upon the thumbnail of that category. Any ideas?
