how to highlight authors

Hi, I'm going to set up a gallery with hundreds of images from many contributors, hence I have to build fixed album categories and subcategories (i.e. nature>animals>mammals, nature>plants>trees, lifestyle>parties>night and so on) in order to:
1 let users navigate it consistently
2 avoid discrepancies among contributors, eg submitting same arguments to different categories

They want to let visitors appreciate their photos, but I don't see a way to differentiate between authors (duplicating the album structure it is not a good idea)
Is there a function for this or should I file a feature request?
a dedicated field on submitting with a small text line on the photo title line would be enough, otherwise a tagging system...

No Jan,
let's say author
- Avedon has nature, people and parties photos
- Newton has people and architecture
- Bresson has only nature
then Bresson and Avedon can post on nature>animals>mammals and nature>plants>trees
and Newton and Avedon post on people category
Do you get the problem?
So, provided that I have much more categories and subcats and tens of hundreds of photos, there is no way to distinguish different authors, right?
I am saying this because your great product is growing and many more webmasters are using it, many of them have to differentiate among photo's authors...
In case it isn't allowed by current features, is there a chance you add it as a feature request?
thanks
guido

Hi, I still don't understand....

there is an AUTHOR - author can create the category, can upload images into his category...

but there are RIGHTS (e.g. Upload rights)...

So if A is an author of category 1
B, C, D can upload images into category 1, if they have upload rights...

every user can get e.g. upload rights for all categories or for only some selected ...

You are right! You have greatly allowed admins and users to take advantage of your user rights!
but the real problem, if author A,B,C post on a common category, is:
how do I differentiate among authors? how can I show that a photo belongs to author A and not B, and vice versa?
can author B display a different watermark? or a different tag?
I know they can write it on image name or description, but if they post hundreds or thousand of photos, it is an overwhelming task...

:( there is no such feature, only what you can do is adding upload rights of an category only for author of this category:

A will have category A (only A will have upload rights for this category)
B will have category B (only B will have upload rights for this category), etc...

so CATEGORY = USER (Author)

Hi Jan,
I totally understand what he is requesting - and I was looking for the same function.
Some of us don't want a bunch of categories to be made by the user, and want to control the layout of the gallery without each user having his or her own category but still be able to give credit to the author of the photo within a preset category.

Like in my case, I don't even allow user upload, but the photos I publish within a category I wish there was a place to fill in the author.

Anyway, maybe in the future there could be such a field in the upload form.

Other than that, I have been playing around with this gallery for a few days now and getting ready to use it on my site, and I must say overall it really is great! There is a lot of flexibility and options here.
when I get a new component like this I like to test it out and play with all the params a for a while before actually using it on my live site to make sure I know how all the bells and whistles work, and I must say you have done a really great job with this.

thanks again for an awesome application - i know it's hard to please everyone!

cheers, romas
