Hi!
Can anyone here guide me about how can I stop Phoca Gallery from creating multiple thumbnails. By default it creates thumbnails of three sizes - large, medium and small. I would like that only the large thumbnail is generated. Can we stop the other two thumbnail creation?

Hi, all three thumnails are used in Phoca Gallery, so in fact for this you need to customize it in php.

My question is the same as the question asked...
"how can I stop Phoca Gallery from creating multiple thumbnails. By default it creates thumbnails of three sizes - large, medium and small. I would like that only the large thumbnail is generated. Can we stop the other two thumbnail creation?"
Jans reply was " Hi, all three thumnails are used in Phoca Gallery, so in fact for this you need to customize it in php."
My site does not use the smal and medium thumbnail.
Please, how can we stop it from creating small and medium thumbnails ?
It is an uneccessary strain on the server and a massive waste of space for something not required.
Thanks

Hi, there are many ways how to do it.
1) You can disable all the thumbnails creating in Options
2) if you disable it, you can upload your own large thumbnails - so you can run Phoca Gallery without creating thumbnails as you can do them by your self
3) There is no strain for the server as while using Phoca Gallery, no thumbnails are created - they are created only once - at start - so while users are visiting your site, the thumbnails exist and there is not memory demand for creating them.
4) Phoca Gallery uses small and medium thumbnails so I don't undestand how to display Phoca Gallery without them but of course if you do it (I cannot imagine it) then just disable the thumbnail creation in Options and upload own large thumbnails if you are using only the large thumbnails.
5) Small and medim thumbnails mostly have cca to 5% of space used for all images and creating them save a lot of memory for using image gallery.

Jan,
Thanks for your reply.
I cannot turn off thumbnail creation, it is a critical part of this website which has been running for more than 2 years.
We upload literally hundreds of photos at a time and we do that regularly.
We use the multiple add feature.
I was incorrect in saying that we do not use the medium and small, we actually use the medium and large only.
I was just hoping we could reduce the strain on the server and some disk space by stopping any uneccessary thumbnail creations ( small ) becasue sometimes we have problems during thumnail creation.
IF you would like to see the website, which will show that we do not use any small thumnails you can see it here. www .actionsportphotos.com.au
We have dozens of galleries/Categories, each with approx 200 images.
The medium thumb is displayed in category veiw and the large thumbail IS the large image displayed on the site. The original image that is uploaded is not used and we actually delete them after upload and thumbnail creation. ( If we don't delete the original uploaded image, thumbnail creation doesnt work because it times out and crashes.
So you can see we end with 4 images for every pic uploaded, the original(which we delete and the 3 thumbnails, small, medium and large) and when we are dealing with so many images.
Having said all that, it seems that the only thing I would like, is it stop it from creating the small thumbnails, which would be very minimal saving of resources anyway.
Sorry for giving you my life story! Your software is great and Ive used it on numerous websites and have made a couple of donations over the years.

Hi, as allways there are two ways (or more):
a) you can do the thumbnails dynamically - so you will save disk space but your site will crash, I think, because making thumbnail for every visitor will stop the server working (because of memory - using cache, etc is in fact the same like b) )
b) you can create thumbnails before users will visit the site and then the thumbnails will be displayed statically - this mean, there will be used some disk space but it is a huge memory saver in compare to a)
Original images are used for re/creating thumbnails, downloading images, getting image size info, etc. - see the warning box here:
