Hi,
I think that Jan spoke about enabling the plugin in the menu Extensions => Plugin manager. Maybe you forgot to do it after uploading and installing the component.
Then check that Phoca Gallery Plugin and Phoca Gallery Slideshow Plugin are enabled (green marks).
