Basically would like to remove the description on the first page of the gallery and use the photos to show what is in each album

It is by vehicle make with their logo on it

for instance on Porsche, I just want the logo, no Porsche or no (1) after it... is it possible or no?

I did something similar. But instead of modifying the front page of Phoca, I made my own links. You could do something as simple as an article with images inside that link to each Phoca category. IE, use a custom front-end for Phoca altogether.

In my case, I installed ozio_gallery and used the accordion skin. Then I wrote some code for ozio that grabs the first image in each Phoca gallery and adds it to the ozio accordion XML file. It was a lot of work (and still needs more work to make it more user-friendly), but it looks pretty sweet. Just an idea. I imagine you could customize Phoca instead if you wanted to...
