I am new to joomla as well as phoca, I have read the documentation and tried several things but I cannot get it straight in my head.
What I am trying to do:
- Create a link on the main menu (top of site) that has a link (landscapes). Clicking this link will display a dropdown menu of sub-categories (parks cities, etc). Clicking on a sub-category will display a grid of all the pictures in that sub-category.
What I have done:
- in the phocagallery directory, I have created directories for parks and cities and uploaded the pictures to each directory.
- in phoca category manager, I have created the categories and linked them to the appropriate directory on the server.
- I have added a menu link to the main menu labelled Landscape Pictures and have set it to display list of categories
Questions:
I do not understand where I tell the menu "which" directory to get the names of the categories from
How do I actually display a thumbnail view of the pictures once a user has clicked on the menu category
- when I am in Phoca manager and I click on images, no pictures are listed. Its as though it is not seeing or reading the image directories I have made.
I realize these are basic questions. I think I am just missing a basic concept of how joomla categories/articles work and how Phoca interacts with them.
I am using Joomla 3 and the proper Phoca version for version 3.

Yes, I think so too. You need to creat thumbnails of your images.I realize these are basic questions. I think I am just missing a basic concept of how joomla categories/articles work and how Phoca interacts with them.

But you need to Enable Thumbnails Generation in Phoca Gallery Options before.Go to: Components » Phoca Gallery » Images » and click on [Multiple Add] button. Now you are in Phoca Gallery [Multiple Add]. You can select the images or folder you want to add to the gallery here. If you select a folder and this folder contains subfolders and images, Phoca Gallery creates Category from selected folder, Subcategory from included subfolder and adds all the included images into this Category (Subcategory).
